Final Music Magazine DPS
I made a few alterations to my DPS after peer evaluation and Ms Bostock's advice. I changed the quote back to red. The red is more aesthetically pleasing and makes reference to the large red L, which is appropriate because they are both directly associated with Leon Pawson. I changed it to blue efore because I wanted consistency in colour scheme with the front cover and conents page, which make use of red, blue and yellow. I instead changed his name in the heading to blue. This looks far more aesthetically pleasing, and also makes larger use of the colour. I increased the size of the letters 'L' and 'P' in the heading, also. In the bottom left corner of the right page, I included the magazine name, as this follows codes and conventions. In the last sentence of the article, I changed the wording from, 'questions asked by', to 'words and portrait by', which follows codes and conventions better.

Final Music Magazine Front Cover
This is my front cover after making changes based on the peer evaluation results and Ms Bostock's advice. I vastly increased the size of the Leon Pawson heading and slightly enlarged the paragraph underneath. I slightly moved the ELO paragraph and picture. I slightly moved and enlarged the two paragraphs at the top. I removed all page numbers, because they are not usually found on front covers, and hence do not follow the codes and conventions. I included two new mini paragraphs mentioning which artists will be included inside the magazine.
Results from peer evaluation...
In class we split into groups of 1 and 2. One group sat at the same computer whilst the other group rotated round every 10 minutes or so. Each pair would evaluate each other's Front cover, Contents page, and DPS. These are the reccuring results I got... Front Cover: It does look like a front cover. The target audience is 30 - 50, male, interested in older Rock music. A strong central dominant image. A strong colour scheme. A strong Masthead and Strapline. Strong Composition. An appropriate mode of address. Could do with more text. Perhaps in need of more text. In need of improved text placement. Text in need of rearranging. It is obvious I need to make changes to the text. Contents Page: It does look like a contents page. The target audience is 30 - 50, male, interested in older Rock music. Strong colour scheme. Strong composition. Appropriate mode of address. A strong photo. Good relation between contents and front cover. Some text could do with with being moved slightly. It is obvious I need to make alterations to the text. DPS: My strongest of the three. It does look like a DPS. The target audience is 30 - 50, male, interested in older Rock music. Good use of caption, quote, colour scheme and composition. Appropriate mode of address. Good relation to front cover and contents page. The large L is a strong point. A strong photo. The quote looks better in red, as opposed to blue. It is obvious I need to change the quote back to red. My weak point for all three was always something to do with text, which is fortunately quite easy to rectify.

Plan for my Evaluation...
I intend to use Prezi for my evaluation. I wish to use this because I think I could do a much better written evaluation than a spoken one. Prezi allows me to write my evaluation and include images, whilst also being interesting/entertaining to view. Prezi has the potential to get the needed information across whilst not being boring or too text based.
Music Magazine Front Cover - version three
I realised that the dimensions of my front cover image were not accurate to those of an A4 sheet of paper. I increased the width of the canvas to match the dimensions of A4 paper. I increased the Masthead size and moved the strapline, barcode, website address and some of the text. I also changed some of the page numbers to create consistency with the contents page.

Photo for my DPS
This is the photo I intend to use for my DPS. It depicts my dad as musical artist, Leon Pawson. He is holding an empty bag in his right hand, and upon his lap he is clasping a cat. He is looking at the camera, in order to connect to the audience who view the photo. I attempted to light him with red and blue, but unfortunately, the blue did not come out as vibrantly as I had hoped. Luckily, I can fix this on Photoshop. I also intend to remove the white from the bag he is holding, as it is unnecessary and distracting. A number of large creases can be seen on the back- drop, which I will have to remove on Photoshop. This photo obviously plays on the phrase, 'to let the cat out of the bag'. I wanted to portray Pawson as confident, yet quirky.
Music Magazine Contents Page - third version
For this version, I removed the editor's letter and replaced it with a RATED section. I did this because I felt an editor's letter was inappropriate for this genre of music magazine. The RATED section is more appropriate, and the use of colour also makes for better consistency. I also realised that two of the articles mentioned on the front cover were not mentioned on my contents page, so I fixed this too.

Photo for my Contents Page...
This is another photo of my made up artist, Leon Pawson. I intend to write my DPS about Leon Pawson, so have used him and his quote on the contents page. I used blue lighting and a dramatic pose to make him seem more intense.

Music Magazine Front Cover
This is the first version of my front cover. I am pleased with it but it has cetain problems: the Masthead isn't large enough, the photo of the man doesn't stand out enough from the black background, the words - LEON PAWSON - aren't large enough, the ELO picture doesn't stand out enough, and it doesn't include the date, issue number or web address.

Photo for my front cover...
This is the image I decided to use for the background of my central dominant image. I achieved it by using a long shutter speed whilst photographing two luminous, coloured, rotating, back massagers on a black surface. This creates an abstract photo using the same colours I used to light the photo of my dad in the central dominant image, for consistency. This image could be seen to resemble a jukebox, which are associated with more retro music, fitting in with the theme of my magazine.
Photo for my front cover...
This is the photo I've decided to use for my central dominant image. I decided to go for a quirky and slightly bizarre photo to catch the reader's attention, and makes them want to look at the magazine for an explanantion. The explanation will be provided by the text added afterwards. I used red and blue lighting from spotlights with colour filters placed over them. I suspended a black sheet behind my dad to minimise unwanted reflection of light and to provide a monotone coloured background (to make editing the background easier). Unfortunately the cat isn't looking at the camera, which I also changed after with editing, by taking the eyes from a previous photo. The lighting and pose and facial expression give quite an intimidating, but the the presence of the cat makes him seem more approachable. This combination makes him seem quirky or bizarre, which is the image I wanted him to have.

A day in the life of my ideal reader...
The typical day of my magazine's ideal reader would start with an alarm going off about 6:30am. He would get up and visit the bathroom. He would probably look at himself in the mirror and frown inwardly at the sight of how old he looks. A cup of tea or coffee would his next priority and he would then get his kids up for school if he has kids. He would then take a shower and have a shave. This would be followed by getting dressed and then getting some breakfast, perhaps something quick and easy like couple of slices of toast, because he will be running late. He would then kiss his wife and kids goodbye when they went off to work and school. Lastly he would put his MP3 player headphones on and start playing a tune, maybe something from the eighties such as the Feral Cats or something while he walked to the station to catch his.
After returning from work he would get changed into a t-shirt and jeans and he and his wife would cook dinner. After eating he would pester his kids to do their homework. He may then watch some TV and go to bed at about 10:30pm. He may read a magazine in bed for half an hour and then go to sleep
My Masthead...
This is the first draft of my masthead. I liked the idea, but the hand drawn appearance was not appropriate for a front cover, so I would have to recreate it digitally...
This is my attempt at recreating the masthead digitally myself. It is difficult to read, so I decided I would use a preset font on the computer in order to create the masthead...
Moodboard...
This is my Moodboard, based on the ideal reader of my magazine. Hence, it includes lots of pictures to do with 80s music. Such pictures include photos of iconic bands from the time, such as Queen and Tears for Fears. Also included are photos of instruments used a lot in music from that time, such as an electric guitar, a drum kit and a synthesizer. The ideal reader of my magazine will be enthusiastic about all these instruments and will like these bands' music (and if they don't like their music, they will at least appreciate them or respect them as artists).
